When I woke Sunday morning, the confusion I’d hoped would dissipate while I slept remained, and I’d venture to say it was worse. If I loved Adam, and I truly thought I did, why was Mason the first person on my mind when I woke? As I showered, I decided it wasn’t Mason but his words that had managed to burrow deep into my mind. I understood what he was trying to tell me. It wasn’t as though I hadn’t already entertained thoughts of the same—that maybe Adam and I kept hurting each other, so we didn’t have to hurt ourselves.
