Chapter Ten

The school day seemed to fly by, which was a rare occurrence those days. It had been a week since the last time Ben and I spoke, and I was beginning to think that he had finally realized how immature he had been and dropped the whole thing. I didn’t have a shift, and Mom was working late, so my sister stayed with my aunt. I had a free day, and I intended to spend it with Adaline, as usual. Life was going well, which should have been a sign that the universe would soon shift in the opposite direction, evening things out a bit. But I never saw it coming.
