Chapter Nine

Chase sat in our oversized recliner, laid back, staring at the ceiling while my mother brewed a pot of coffee. His mother allowed him to stay with me while they sorted through the mess. My mother issued a blistering statement that sent the reporters flying from our house. Hayden was two days away from heading to spring training, so he packed up to leave early, hoping his absence in town might smooth things over a little faster.
