Alicia knocked on my door the next morning, startling me awake. I didn’t want to wake up and forced to face what happened. I was alone. The second I opened my eyes, the pain rushed back, flooding my heart with wave after wave of intense aching the likes of which I’d never felt before. The tightening in my chest was so immense I could barely breathe. I sat up in bed, a useless attempt to ease the aching in my heart. If I found the strength to move about the day as if nothing happened, then it didn’t… right?
