I can't believe it's August! This summer has been busy and just FLYING by, over here... what about you?
Here are the latest updates with what's currently posting and what's coming soon to PirateCat, along with a heartfelt message from me (the PirateCat owner) to all of you on this email list. (Please read to the end to see the message!)
Currently Posting
Fate Rising is back from hiatus and posting weekly episodes every Tuesday!
There are a LOT of exciting developments and big adventure headed your way as this story launches into "Part 2" of its arc. If you're a Leyward Stones fan, you definitely don't want to miss this serial! And if you aren't... well, give it a try! You might become one! ;)
Coming Soon
I launched a new serial on Kindle Vella last month! You may have seen my email blast about a new standalone YA fantasy serial coming to PirateCat, too... and then my subsequent announcement that the release of that serial had to be delayed.
The reason is that the story is in a contest on Kindle Vella, and for the contest period, it's required to be exclusive to the Vella platform. So...
As soon as the contest period ends (later this month), I'll be able to get the story set up to release here on PirateCat as well. So stay tuned for that!
A Little Heartfelt Plea
PirateCat is a (very) small business, operated as a branch of my larger writing business... but it's a project that's very special to me.
I've been running PirateCat for a few years now, and to be honest, I make no money from it. None. In fact, I'm at a negative for expenses maintaining the website, not to mention the time put in.
Why am I telling you this?
I started PirateCat Publishing because:
I believe there is a need for more spaces where teens (and readers of all ages!) can find a variety of CLEAN young adult fiction all in one place without worrying about having to sift through loads of junk or inappropriate content.
I know how awesome it can be to have an engaged, interactive community to chat with about the books you read! I wanted PirateCat to be that kind of place for the stories in the platform--a place where readers can comment, talk about books in the Chat areas, ask questions to the authors, and more.
I wanted a place to send my readers where I knew they could feel safe reading what was there, and where they could engage and interact in a space with other, likeminded YA readers.
I wanted to be able to interact with my readers directly, rather than being fully dependent on the big publishing platforms (which can change terms and publishing conditions at their will).
I also had plans for expanding PirateCat to offer a bigger variety of content, cool interactive things for young authors, and more, but we haven't yet had the growth in membership to justify the expansion.
In short, I started PirateCat Publishing as a passion project, and it still is one! But it's not one I can maintain at a loss forever, so...
If you believe in what we're doing here at PirateCat, but haven't yet signed up as a subscriber, PLEASE consider doing so. Membership is only $5 a month or $50 a year, and gets you access to EVERYTHING in the portal, including new content coming in weekly!
If you are already a subscriber (Bless you, you wonderful soul!), please consider SHARING PirateCat with others who may be interested.
PirateCat isn't going anywhere for now! But I also know that people who might want to help support something may not engage for that if they don't know there's a need. So here's me saying... There is a need! Please help me build this and get the word out, if you believe in the vision for this platform.
THANK YOU again to all of you for being here, and for supporting our mission to build a thriving community around quality, clean YA stories.
Happy reading!
Sincerely,
Crystal Crawford
PirateCat Publishing owner and operator
